Locksmith prices in Toronto, and how a quote is actually worked out
You are given a firm figure on the phone before a technician is dispatched. It is based on what you tell us about the door, so the more you can describe, the closer the number is. Nothing is added afterwards that you were not told about first.
A starting price is for the simplest version of a job: a standard cylinder, on a standard door, that has not already been forced. Most jobs are that. The ones that are not are the ones worth talking through on the call.

These figures have not been supplied yet, so nothing has been guessed in their place. Call (289) 460-1916 and you will be given the figure for your job on the phone.

Starting prices assume the simplest version of the job. You receive a firm figure on the call before anyone is dispatched, and if the door turns out to be materially different from the description, the technician stops and gives you the revised figure before continuing.
What moves the price
Five things account for nearly all of the difference between one quote and another for what sounds like the same job.
- What kind of lock is on the door
- A standard pin tumbler cylinder, a high security cylinder, and a multi-point patio door are three different jobs. The first is quick. The third needs a part that is specific to the door manufacturer.
- Whether anything is already damaged
- A lock that has been forced, drilled by somebody else, or had a key snapped in it takes longer than one that is simply locked.
- How many doors and how many keys
- On a rekey these two numbers are most of the quote. Doing several doors in one visit costs less than booking them separately, because the pinning is worked out once.
- The vehicle, on automotive work
- The part and the programming equipment are specific to the make, model, and year. Two cars of the same age in the same driveway can differ substantially.
- The hour
- {{TBD: confirm whether after-hours, overnight, and holiday rates differ from the daytime rate, and by how much}}
Paying
{{TBD: accepted payment methods, whether payment is taken on completion, and whether a receipt or invoice is issued as standard}}
{{TBD: warranty on parts and labour, and for how long}}

Questions about price
Why will you not publish one flat price?
Because the same words describe very different jobs. A house lockout on a standard cylinder and a house lockout on a high security multi-point patio door take different tools, different time, and different parts. A published flat rate would be wrong for one of them, and it is the customer who would find out at the door.
Does it cost more at night or on a holiday?
{{TBD: confirm whether after-hours and holiday rates differ, and by how much}}
What payment methods do you take?
{{TBD: confirm accepted payment methods}}
Is the quote on the phone the final figure?
It is the figure for the job as you described it. It holds unless the door is materially different from the description, and in that case the technician stops and gives you the revised number before doing any further work. Nothing is added afterwards that you were not told about first.
Something not covered here? Call (289) 460-1916 and ask. We would rather answer it on the phone than have you guess.
