What counts as an emergency, and what does not

An emergency is anything that has left you unable to enter or secure a property right now. Locked out with no spare. A key snapped off in the cylinder. A deadbolt that will not throw at the end of the night. A door standing open after a forced entry. Those cannot wait until morning.

A lock that has become stiff, a rekey after a move, a smart lock you have bought and want fitted, or a spare key you have been meaning to get cut are all real jobs, but none of them is an emergency. Booked as ordinary work they cost less. We would rather tell you that on the phone than take the call-out.

What happens when you call our 24/7 locksmith in North York

You are asked three things: the address, what kind of door and lock it is, and what the lock is doing right now. Those three answers are what makes a quote a figure rather than a range.

You then get that figure, before anyone sets off. It holds unless the door turns out to be materially different from the description, and in that case the technician stops and gives you the revised number before doing any further work. Nothing is added afterwards that you were not told about first.

Before we open any door, we need to see that you live or work there. Photo identification with the address on it is easiest. A lease, an ownership record, or a piece of addressed mail alongside identification also works if the licence has not caught up with a recent move.

After hours, weekends, and holidays

The hours are the same at every hour: open, every day of the year. Overnight and holiday work is a large share of what a locksmith actually does, because that is when people come home to a door that will not open and when a shop discovers its back door will not lock at closing.
